Kirkus (Kirkus Reviews, October 1, 2007 (Vol. 75, No. 19))
This joyous bilingual, multicultural celebration of the pleasures of the extended family presents a childlike view of relationships among cousins. Each page contains a simple statement, such as "Our mothers are sisters / Nuestras madres son hermanas," with a facing picture and a related vignette (here with the three sisters together today, and earlier as young women in picture frames). The birthday celebration includes a pi-ata, and the cousins share pizza. Cousins "pass around clothes that don't fit anymore," "blame each other when something goes wrong" and "all fit inside one of Grandma's hugs." The conclusion, "We are cousins. We are family," nicely sums up the premise of this concept book that will be useful for story times and lessons with the theme of family. 2007, Pinata Books/Arté Público, 32p, $15.95.
