Caroline B. Hopenwasser (Children's Literature)
This was my first foray into the Warriors World, which is already populated with many previous adventures. Though I had not read the previous books I was able to pick the story up quickly after my initial confusion caused by meeting so many characters in just a few pages. This book chronicles the adventures of three cat apprentices in the ThunderClan--Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw. Though the cat clans have been at peace for some time, tensions are brewing and war seems imminent. The three apprentices, though once close, grow apart as they begin to hide secrets from one another. Ultimately they must decide where their loyalties lie as they work to avert war with the other cat clans. The Warriors World is a rich and complex landscape populated with interesting characters. Fans of animal fantasy should enjoy the many opportunities to venture into this interesting environment and join in the adventure. “Warriors, Power of Three” 2008, HarperCollins Publishers, $16.99. Ages 10 up.

Janie Barron (Heart of Texas Reviews (Vol. 21, No. 4))
In this story, the three children of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw and grandchildren of the great Firestar have thrived in their apprenticeships. Lionpaw is a warrior in training, Hollypaw is learning to understand the code of the warriors, and Jaypaw is learning about the powers and connections to Starclan as the medicine cat apprentice. Even though the cat clans have been at peace with each other for a long period of time, it seems that there is trouble coming. As the three learn secrets that they try to keep from one another, they become distanced from each other. They must finally decide to work together to stop a war from destroying the long peace between cat clans. DARK RIVER is the second book in the Warriors, Power of Three series. This book might be hard to understand for those who have not read the first book. There are many animal names and clan names to keep up with. (Warriors, Power of Three.). Fiction. Grades 5-8. 2008, HarperCollins, 322p., $17.89. Ages 10 to 14.

Taylor Thompson (Kutztown Book Review, Fall 2008)
The children of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw have done well with their apprenticeships. Lionpaw makes a new friendship and discovers that it must be kept hidden. Jaypaw learns of a secret that could benefit his clan by damaging others. Hollypaw knows something that might prevent a battle. Each cat comes to discover what it means to be a true warrior; tensions rise and peace between the clans are threatened. The story was easy to pick up after you learned the general cast of characters and the importance of each clan. The book is populated with a rich complex landscape populated with interesting characters. Fans of animal fantasy should enjoy the book. Category: Fiction/Animal Fantasy. 2008, Harper Collins, $17.89. Ages 10 to 14.
