In this story, the three children of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw and grandchildren of the great Firestar have thrived in their apprenticeships. Lionpaw is a warrior in training, Hollypaw is learning to understand the code of the warriors, and Jaypaw is learning about the powers and connections to Starclan as the medicine cat apprentice. Even though the cat clans have been at peace with each other for a long period of time, it seems that there is trouble coming. As the three learn secrets that they try to keep from one another, they become distanced from each other. They must finally decide to work together to stop a war from destroying the long peace between cat clans. DARK RIVER is the second book in the Warriors, Power of Three series. Jaypaw learns of a secret that could benefit his clan by damaging others. Hollypaw knows something that might prevent a battle. Each cat comes to discover what it means to be a true warrior; tensions rise and peace between the clans are threatened. The story was easy to pick up after you learned the general cast of characters and the importance of each clan. The book is populated with a rich complex landscape populated with interesting characters. Fans of animal fantasy should enjoy the book.
