Going to the farm is exciting; there is so much to see and do. Biscuit joins his mistress as she feeds the hens and then visits a big sow and her piglets. From this point, every place they go a piglet seems to be on the scene and must be taken back to the pig pen. However, when Biscuit pays a visit to the geese, it is too scary for Biscuit and the piglet. They hightail it to the pig sty. The illustrations are delightful and kids will get a chuckle out of the dog--rear end out--struggling to get into the pig pen. Part of the “I Can Read!” series, this is an entry level book which the back cover notes is “ideal for sharing with emergent readers.” 2007, HarperCollins, $15.99. Biscuit the puppy and his little-girl owner visit a farm where they help feed the animals. A piglet keeps escaping from its pen to follow Biscuit, and the girl must take him back. The simple, repetitive text and clean illustrations make this book accessible to new readers, but there is little plot. (My First I Can Read Book series).
