Heidi Hauser Green (KLIATT Review, July 2005 (Vol. 39, No. 4))
From the moment that Aimee Lancaster arrives in Sleepy Hollow with her brother Shane and their father, strange things happen. Their car seizes up. The streetlamps burst. Some townspeople report sightings of a large, hyper-aggressive black dog; others talk about a malevolent, whispering tree; some even say they've seen the headless horseman riding. Then, the murders start. People, suddenly, lose their heads. While the adults credit the violence to a serial killer, Aimee and Shane suspect there are other forces at work. With their new friend, Stasia, the pair investigates. What they find out is that they'd better solve this problem fast, because they just might be the next names on the horseman's list. This chilling novel is sure to appeal to teens drawn to the supernatural, especially those who like creepy thrillers. Golden and Gilmore delight in the gore of their story, and readers should have no difficulty visualizing the terror that grips this formerly sleepy town.
