Marilyn Courtot (Children's Literature)
With all of the current interest in fantasy, kids who are too young for Harry Potter or the “Lord of the Rings” series can cut their teeth on this fantasy by Coville. The premise is much the same as the other stories--the protagonist must go on a quest. This particular protagonist is a bumbling magician named Moongobble. He does have a team of stalwart friends and with their help he manages to complete his third quest. His goal is to become a full-fledged member of the Society of Magicians. The message of friendship, teamwork and being good of heart will not be lost on kids. This book is the final one in the “Moongobble and Me” trilogy, but it is not necessary to have read the first two to enjoy this one. 2004, Simon & Schuster, $14.95. Ages 6 to 10.

Gwenn Davis (The Kutztown University Book Review, Fall 2005)
Moongobble, a bumbling but kind wizard, must complete his third task in order to become a member of the Society of Magicians. His friends, Edward, a small boy, Urk, a frog, Fireball, a dragon, and Rusty the Knight go on a quest with Moongobble. They need to get a stone called, “the Queen’s Belly Button” away from the elves who have come under the stone’s power and are now evil. This was an enjoyable quick read. It is the third book in the Moongobble and Me series. Boys will love this book because of the humor, ex: a wagon that makes farting noises. The black and white illustrations are imaginative. Category: . 2004, Simon and Schuster, $14.95. Ages 8 to 10.

Virginia Gleaton (The Lorgnette - Heart of Texas Reviews (Vol. 17, No. 4))
This is the third story in the Moongobble and Me series. In this book, Moongobble finishes his third test successfully and becomes a member of the Society of Magicians. The leader of the society, Fazwad, explains why Moongobble was admitted and tells him he will have many more adventures with his friends. This is a really easy-to-read book. Reluctant chapter readers might like this series. (Moongobble and Me). Fiction. Grades 3-5. 2004, Simon & Schuster, 71p., $14.95. Ages 8 to 11.
