Anne O'Malley (Booklist, Mar. 15, 2002 (Vol. 98, No. 14))
Trisha worries about her best friend Christina's controlling, jealous boyfriend, Tucker, but most of the time the two girls share happy high-school days and look forward to a bright future. Then comes the fateful night when an angry Tucker, driving recklessly, kills Christina and injures Trisha and her boyfriend, Cody. Christina "looked for all the world like a princess gone to sleep, as if waiting for some magical prince to kiss her and wake her up," a heartbroken Trisha thinks at the funeral home. McDaniel tells her signature tale of untimely death while skillfully weaving in elements that will capture teens' attention--unhealthy relationships, dangerous driving, and legalities in the aftermath of a crash. As Trisha and Cody struggle to reestablish normal lives, McDaniel fans will identify with much of their daily reality and cheer them on. Category: Books for Older Readers--Fiction. 2002, Bantam, $4.99. Gr. 6-10.
