Kathy (BookHive (www.bookhive.org))
It's Tuesday evening, around eight o'clock. You look out the window and what do you see? Something is floating by and it looks like a frog! In fact, frogs are everywhere in this wordless book. They are riding lily pads like flying carpets and one frog even takes a remote control! Caldecott medal- winning illustrations tell this humorous story. Category: Award Books; Fantasy; Humor. Grade Level: Preschool; Primary (K-3rd grade). 1991, Clarion. Ages 3 to 9.

CCBC (Cooperative Children's Book Center Choices, 1991)
Down at the pond on a Tuesday evening around 8:00, lily pads mysteriously begin to function as flying carpets, lifting frogs gently from the water's surface and carrying them into a nearby town. A horde of benign airborne frogs descends upon the town's unsuspecting, apparently oblivious, human residents who continue with their mundane routines undisturbed -- eating a late-night snack, falling asleep in front of the television set, etc. Whatever the magic, it apparently fades away with the rising sun and the frogs hop back to their watery home, leaving the townspeople to puzzle over an inexplicable infestation of lily pads on city streets. A nearly wordless book invites readers to supply the details about an unusual occurrence wryly depicted with watercolor paintings which succeed in a perfect blend of realism and fantasy. CCBC categories: Picture Books; Books For Toddlers. 1991, Clarion Books, 32 pages, $15.95. Ages 3-8.

Kirkus (Kirkus Reviews, 1991)
On Tuesday, just as the full moon is rising, the lily pads take off flying--each topped by a serene, personable frog. This extraordinary flock startles some dozing birds and blunders into a line full of sheets before joining a woman drowsing by her TV; with dawn approaching, the frogs set out for home but don't quite make it before their magic carpets fall to earth, leaving the frogs to hop back to the pond while passing humans marvel at the unusual debris in the road. This is a nearly wordless book (its few words only add confusion: if the frogs' adventure is linked to the full moon, next Tuesday won't duplicate the magic as suggested). In the illustrations, the fey events are depicted with beguiling realism, the plump frogs washed in luminous moonlight, drifting silently on their eerie escapade. Wiesner varies his double spreads with occasional insets and frames, and provides plenty of intriguing visual details to ponder. Nifty. 1991, Clarion/Houghton Mifflin, $15.95. Horn Book (The Horn Book Guide, 1991)
A surreal, almost wordless picture book shows the mysterious levitation of lily pads and frogs from a pond one Tuesday at dusk. The frogs soar around town until they fall to the ground at sunrise. Large, detailed watercolors use dramatic points of view and lighting effects and often show a humorous range of expressions. There is a forecast of further surprises to come on following Tuesdays. Category: Fiction. 1991, Clarion, 32pp.. Ages 5 to 9. Rating: 3: Recommended, satisfactory in style, content, and/or illustration.
