With the support of her two best friends, high school senior Holly tries to deal with the murder of her brother and her anger at God for allowing the crime to happen.
Angelica Delgado (VOYA, October 2005 (Vol. 28, No. 4)) For the third summer in a row, Florida high school student Holly and her best friends, Raina and Kathleen, volunteer at a nearby hospital. Despite the happiness that she feels while serving others in her community, as Holly sees her friends enjoying the company of their boyfriends, she begins pining for a romance of her own. Her recent Internet flirtation with ShyBoy leads to frustration because he avoids any sort of rendezvous. When her parents discover her secret stash of ShyBoy e-mail and ground her, it seems that they will never allow her to grow up. The situation darkens when several tragic events leave Holly devastated and doubting her faith in God and humanity. Instead of employing the usual "Personal Crisis + Angst = Melodramatic Weep Fest" formula that should be familiar to all her readers, McDaniel makes slight changes. In this concluding book to the Angels in Pink trilogy, the main heroine must cope not only with a family tragedy but also with a friend's illness on top of her impending high school graduation. The McDaniel standards of awkward dialogue and general sappiness are still present. Holly's faith dilemma poses complex theological questions, yet the author barely makes an attempt to answer any of them. It is incredibly disappointing when Holly's spiritual crisis culminates in a hackneyed epiphany at a dying child's bedside. Faults aside, fans will voraciously read this new addition with the book in one hand, tissues in the other.
